My Journey from Denial to Acceptance
Now I’m here to help you on your own journey
My name is Charlie Kramer. I was diagnosed with a progressive visual disability (Retinitis Pigmentosa) at the age of 5, and declared legally blind when I was 15. I felt the dreams I had of living a “normal” life fading away.
For many years, I rejected my disability and was determined to live and function as a fully sighted person. I wouldn’t use my blind cane, never shared about my blindness, and didn’t identify as disabled.
It was quite the journey of learning, but maybe more importantly “unlearning” – rejecting the stereotype and stigma that society boxes those with disabilities into.
I focussed on inner work and accepted my disability as a part of me, but knew that it wasn’t what defined me. I could still live a healthy, exciting, ambitious life filled with passion and success.
Part of this journey included a career change. I worked as a musical artist and spiritual leader in the Jewish community for many years, following my musical passion.
Music actually played a big part in helping me to work through my struggles accepting my disability and to put my thoughts into words. I found that through music I was able to connect with people, to share my story, and bring awareness, acceptance, and have incredible conversations.
This opened the door and guided me to what is now my true passion and life’s work: to help others who are struggling to accept their disabilities, to uncover the positive, and own that part of themselves.
Working as a coach is one of the most incredible, rewarding experiences of my life, and I have helped my clients regain their sense of worth, advocate for themselves, set goals, and begin looking towards their future.
I know what it’s like to feel discouraged, hopeless, and lost. I also know what it’s like to be on the other side and feel excited for what’s ahead, building a future and being the best version of myself.
If my story resonated with you, I’d love to connect. Let’s book a call to discuss how we can work together.
